The Interpretive/Artistic Event is designed to highlight the showmanship of the skater. It can take one of two forms:

1) Dramatic Skate - A program of serious, emotional, artistic skating, designed to simply interpret the music (typically dramatic, classical, love songs, etc.) which conveys an emotion other than humor. The skater may portray a specific character, but it cannot change the nature of the program to a comedy.

2) Light Entertainment Skate - A program designed to be light-hearted, entertaining, upbeat, clever, comedic, or incorporates a clever effect. For example, a classical piece of music might be used, yet the skater’s costume and movements might indicate a light farce or bold comedy.

• There is no limit on the number or types of jumps, spins, and acrobatic tricks allowed, as long as they accurately reflect the music and chosen theme.
• The costume should also relate to the music, and be as interesting, bright, and enjoyable as possible. Pieces of costumes cannot be left scattered on the ice, but must remain attached to the skater’s outfit.
• Any props must remain on the skater’s person.
• Music can be of skater’s choice and discretion, but according to the time limits set above.
• No live animals can be used.
• No open fire can be used.
